For the release of the second edition, UNCCD needed a way to build anticipation and highlight the key messages around land restoration of the publication.

Approach

Understanding the academic nature of the research results in the report, our team proposed the development of mixed media to ensure the content could still be digestible even to non-experts. We worked with UNCCD to understand the key ideas of the publication and which data would be the most impactful in conveying the main messages.

Our designers worked on producing a series of data visualizations, positioning statements and simple but effective media assets that would convey critical information without overwhelming readers, and ultimately ensure that all the elements aligned with the broader land restoration narrative.

We also developed a series of graphic teasers that focused on how land restoration impacts and is related to various dimensions of human life.

Outcome

The second edition of the Global Land Outlook was launched on 27 April 2022, just before the COP15 in Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire. The graphics were leveraged and disseminated through social media channels, as well as media kits, which different outlets used as part of their journalistic pieces, prior, during and after launch to keep momentum going after the launch of the publication.
